Buttermere is one of the purest lakes in England and home to a wide variety of native wildlife. The lake itself has
aquatic plants such as water lobelia, shore weed and quillwort. Fish include Arctic char, Salmon, Pike, Eel and Brown trout.
Buttermere is also a paradise for ornithologists with an abundance of species including Woodpecker, Nut Hatches, Blue Jay,
Cookoo, Yellow hammers various birds of pray and many more. On the lake you may see the crested grebe and
many other water species, or you could be really lucky and spot an Eagle soaring high above.
Around Dalegath itself, we have Red Squirrel, Deer, Fox and Badger. If you are an early riser, you may even see the
resident Otter family by the lakeside.
