LOWER LEVEL WALKING >
The Buttermere area also boasts some spectacular lower level walks right from our front door.
Here are a few suggestions-
1) AROUND BUTTERMERE LAKE.
Number one has to be the walk around the lake. An easy path leads right around the lake where you can soak up the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains waterfalls and forests.
You can stop for afternoon tea at the cafe in Buttermere Village and have a delicous ice cream and refreshments at Sykes farm cafe or from the van at Gatesgarth at the other end of the lake.
It takes round about 2 hours and is a great walk for the whole family that will suit most levels of fitness. Not that it should be under estimated though as its one of the most beautiful low level walks in the world!
2) SCALE FORCE
Take the Lakeside path to Buttermere Village or sourmilk gill and onwards to Crummock Water, where you will find Scale force the highest single drop waterfall in England hidden in the hills. Its a spectacular sight especially after heavy rains. It all makes a great lower level walk with some amazing scenery on the way.
3) WORNSCALE BOTTOM
A Beautiful short walk to the bottom of Haystacks and fleetwith pike where you are surrounded by the majestic fells and can sit and soak in the atmosphere in this natural basin, by beautiful waterfalls, emerald pools and almost mystical ancient woodland.
4) LORTON AREA
There are lots of beautiful low level walks on the way to Lorton.
Plenty of lovely views and tea shops on the way. Simply a delight.
