How to find us...

Dalegarth Guest House and campsite are located on the Hassness Estate on the western shore of Lake Buttermere. The estate is 1¼ miles south of Buttermere village, just off the B5289 road to Honister Pass.

Buttermere is a very small village, so it is essential that you bring everything you need for your stay. Cockermouth and Keswick are the nearest shopping centres, each about 10 miles away.

By car...

  • Take the M6 to Penrith then
    and then the A66 to just beyond Keswick, and continue on the minor road signposted 'Newlands Valley via Stair and Keskadale' to Buttermere.
    Turn left onto the B5289 and continue approximately 1¼ to the Hassness Estate.

  • Or take the B5289 from Keswick via Grange, Borrowdale and Gatesgarth direct to Hassness where the guest house will be on the left.

    There is open car parking in the grounds of the Hassness Estate, however we cannot accept responsibility for vehicles parked on site.

By public transport...

  • The nearest railway station to Buttermere is Penrith

  • The nearest bus station is Keswick served by (National Express services)

  • If travelling by rail to Penrith, take the bus to Keswick - about 45 minutes journey - Call 'Stage Coach'(01946 63222) for up to date departure information.

    • Take a 'Stage Coach' bus service to Buttermere, and ask to be let off at Hassness
